Mammoth is my favorite mountain to snowboard on by far. I grew up learning how to both ski and snowboard on Mammoth Mountain. Therefore, i am more knowledgeable about Mammoth than other mountain. In my opinion, Mammoth is definitely my first choice of all mountains I have boarded at.
By the numbers: - 28 Lifts - Over 150 Trails - 7 Terrain Parks, 3 Half Pipes - 3,500 Skiable acres - Hours of Operation: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Night Skiing unavailable *All information is taken from Mammoth's website |
Pros
1. The best part about Mammoth is definitely the snow. Mammoth gets a large amount of snow each year and always have deep powder.
2. Mammoth is a huge mountain. There are a numerous amounts of lifts and even more trails. So you have a wide variety of trails. 3. Mammoth has multiple trails for each level of difficulty so there is diversity. 4. In my opinion, Mammoth has the best snowboard/ski community. I have met numerous amount of people from Mammoth and even made some life-long friends. 5. There are numerous free style parks in Mammoth. Not only do they have a wide range of jumps, rails, and boxes, but they have multiple half pipes. According to Mammoth Mountain Unbound, their biggest half-pipe is 22 feet high, 550 feet long, 18.5 degrees pitch, and has 30,000 cubic yards of snow. Did I mention they have seven terrain parks? 6. Powder. Mammoth has the best powder I have ever boarded in. |
Cons
1. Price. Mammoth Mountain is not a cheap mountain at all. It is arguably one of the highest cost mountain to board on. The full-day, non-holiday lift ticket will cost an adult (age 19-64) $99.00. The holiday price would cost you $107.00. However, there are multiple deals through the Mammoth Mountain.
2. Mammoth mountain is very far from southern California. I live around the Los Angeles area and it is roughly about a 6-7 hour drive for me. So it is not close at all and trips need to be planned accordingly. 3. Holiday weekends are the worst days to be in Mammoth. Even though it is probably the most convenient time to go up to Mammoth Mountain, Holiday weekends are the most packed days and could easily take about 30 minutes to an hour just to get on a lift. 4. Crowd control. For some reason, when it gets heavily crowded at Mammoth, the staff has a hard time controlling everybody in the lift line. Especially chaotic during the holiday weekend when it is the most important time to be organized. However, I can only say this about Mammoth because I have never snowboarded anywhere else on a 3-day weekend. 5. Unfortunately, night skiing is unavailable at Mammoth and it closes at 4:00 p.m. |
