I will explain a few important pieces of equipment that need to go on your board. This kind of gear will be only for the snowboard and the safety gear will be in the Safety And Risk of Snowboarding.

Leash: A snowboard leash is a wire (normally made from cloth or plastic) that is suppose to keep your board from sliding away just in case if your bindings are to come off. Although most resorts do not check if your board has a leash or not, almost all resorts will cut your ticket if they see your board sliding down the hill without you on it. The reason for this is because your unleashed board could hit someone and potentially hurt someone. So to avoid all of that, just buy a leash. They are extremely cheap and normally last at least a season if not longer. There are some nicer ones that come with a lock attached.

Stomp Pad: Exactly as it sounds. You stomp on it in order to travel/slide short distances. These merely give you a place to put your off foot (non-leading foot) on the board without it slipping or you losing your balance. Stomp pads are not really necessary unlike a leash. But they are extremely helpful and I would recommend a beginner to buy one. Again, they are extremely cheap and last a long time.
